The Agricultural World

In 2010, the Municipality of Franklin had 82 agricultural operators. Agriculture in the area is primarily focused on fruit cultivation, mainly apples, and maple syrup production. Agricultural producers in Franklin are younger than those in the MRC, with an average age of 45 compared to 54. The average age of the operator may explain why agriculture in Franklin is diversified in terms of agritourism offerings.

Indeed, a high proportion of farmers offer activities related to agriculture such as agritourism (21%), product processing (20%), and many sell products directly at the farm (28%). These participation rates in related activities are much higher than what is observed at the MRC level, where only 5% of farms offer agritourism activities, 6% engage in on-farm processing, and 9% sell products directly at their farm. Additionally, 18 out of 25 farms in the region offering pick-your-own activities are located in Franklin.
